Can we hide entire blocks, even though they are in use?

I'd like to hide the block of financial fields in the inventory modules. Not the functionality, but the block or at least some fields. Is there a way to do that without stopping the functionality? Will 'normal' hiding of the field through profile settings block the fields functionality?

If I remember correctly those fields are updated with direct SQL so hiding them for that profile should just work. Let me know how it goes.
